At MVP Insurance, we believe we have the BEST employees! We want to allow you to get to know them like we do. We are starting with our commercial insurance guru, Darrin Ezell. We sat down and asked him some questions. Here is what he had to say.
Q: How did you get into commercial insurance?
A: I was drawn to the commercial side of insurance because of the number of times I was told it was more difficult, and people preferred not to work with it. I ended up enjoying the complexities commercial requires while recognizing I initially wanted it because I was told I didn’t.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I enjoy making tangible objects. Lately, it is woodworking: turning pens, making tables, and unique secret storage objects. I enjoy TV and movie mysteries from other cultures from around the world.
Q: Describe your ideal vacation?
A: My ideal vacation is in nature: mountaintops or seashores, somewhere away from the crowds. After spending the day exploring a forgotten corner of this world, I am exhausted, happy, hungry, and connected to blazing fast internet.
Q: Why insurance?
A: It hurts seeing injustice—just saying, with power, I would be a great superhero—like the idea of someone losing their life’s work because what they thought they were protected from was excluded. I can help change one of the worst days in their life into that day something unfortunate happened, but I got to rebuild.
Q: What industries do you write most often?
A: I often write for busy general contractors conflicted between time being too valuable to spend chasing down their best coverage against their project being too valuable not to. I craft and inspect the policy as if it was my building.
Q: What coverage should every business have that most do not?
A: Ordinance and Law can be such a significant component of a claim, not just for businesses but for homes as well.
Q: What advice do you have for a new business owner to get the best rates on their insurance?
A: Harder: shop around, only get the correct coverage, don’t overlook any exclusions or discounts, review at least annually, and discover the carrier-specific programs that you qualify for. Easier: find an agent that places your interests above their own, and they will do all those things and more.
